I've always loved this breed, but since I figured, that a breed this rare had to cost much more than I could make in 2 lifetimes, I never took the time to check if was possible to buy a TWH nearer than USA.
years later, by accident, I discovered that there was TWHs in Germany, and that there was quite a few studfarms and trainers. In the spring of 2007 my roommate and I contacted several breeders to discuss the breed, and find more info on prices and so on. In the end we got a deal with Holstermanns from Downunder Stables, that we could come for a week in the summer and get some lessons in riding tennessee.
At the same time we both started looking for a TWH to buy. We both wanted mares, so that we could breed later on, and we both wanted a broken horse with experience, since we were beginners. But we found out, that these criteria made it a pretty expensive deal. My roomie ended up buying a mare from an american salespage - unseen - and luckily they turned out to be a good match.
I decided that a broken mare was too expensive, and because I didn't wanna buy unseen, I instead started looking for a young mare, not yet broken. I found a couple of mares that I liked, and on the way to Holstermanns that summer I took a tour and looked at those mares. In the end I fell for Yahoo's Beautiful Joyce, everyday name "Joyce", and bought her while at Holstermann's place.
Both horses arrived to Denmark on July 11th 2007, thanks to Holstermann's who was kind enough to drive the horses all the way to Denmark.
My roomie and I had had a wonderful week in Germany, and we learned a lot about TWH and we rode different horses to try and get the feel of it.
We went home with the feeling, that we had finally found the branch of the riding-sport that fit us the best! :)
In just a week we became fullblood TWH people!
